Stubborn Love by Wendy Owens: Review and Giveaway!!

Synopsis:
Even a broken heart has trouble resisting a Stubborn Love.
Emmie Hayes loved the beautiful Ashton Stirling deeply; nobody could deny that. She had given him her youth, and all he gave in return was misery and pain. She was ready for a new beginning, but Ashton wasn’t about to let her go so easily, even if it meant destroying both their lives in the process.
Three years later Emmie convinces herself she is ready to leave all of that heartbreak in the past and find a little piece of normal for herself. She heads to New York City to pick up where she left off, determined to finish art school. Emmie is determined to focus on school and not let anything distract her, but life has a way of throwing curveballs.
Paige, Emmie’s new roommate, brings Colin Bennett into her life. His smoldering eyes and lean muscular body are difficult for any girl to ignore. Only thing is, Emmie isn’t any girl. Her past makes her resistant to his charms. Colin isn’t one to give up easily, and just when he thinks he may have found a way to her stubborn heart, her tragic history may have found a way to tear them apart.

Clare's Review:
This was an enjoyable read. The story is of Emmie overcoming her past. A terrible marriage, small town gossip, unrealized dreams. She finally moves to New York to finish college and get her degree in art. There she makes an awesome friend in Paige (I love Paige), and meets Colin. Their first meeting is less than romantic; both are snarky and that's always fun. But as Emmie starts to come out of her shell, she and Colin start to be drawn together. Of course, they're both afraid of their feelings, and Emmie certainly has good reason. There's a heck of a lot of give and take while they figure it all out. Colin has endless patience in my mind.
This book deals with some serious shit, and I felt like some more time needed to be taken to do all of that justice. Especially to really feel emotionally connected to the subject and the characters. There were times that I got whiplash going from a fight or despair into everything is great and wonderful. Emmie does wallow in a good bit of self pity, and she admits it too, but that's not my favorite kind of person. She had moments of being funny and witty, so it's in there. But I couldn't always tell what exactly she was feeling; a bit contradictory at times, which was frustrating. A few plot twists that didn't necessarily flow and needed more explanation, lead up, and follow up.
All in all, good story, likeable characters, but I think more time could have been spent in all the transitions to make it all truly believable. 3.5 stars!
